Before You Trade (Trading 101)
A share represents ownership in a company. When you buy a stock you become a part owner. You make money if the price goes up (you sell at a higher price than you bought) or the company pays a dividend. You may lose if you sell at a lower amount than you bought.

Prices change based on supply and demand as well as company disclosures such as dividends, acquisitions, etc. Prices are not set by ZiiDi Trader.
What is ZiiDi Trader?
A service on the M-PESA App allowing customers to buy and sell NSE-listed shares using M-PESA.
It does not guarantee profits or provide investment advice.
How are Your Shares Held?
No. Trading is done via an omnibus account. An Omnibus account is an account that consolidates investments for all the customers. Safaricom holds a CDSC account through the broker.
M-PESA customers aged 18+ who complete onboarding and risk acknowledgement.
Through an omnibus account with each customer's holdings recorded individually.
Yes. Once you buy the shares you become the owner and you can view your statement on the ZiiDi Trader app.
Because trading is done via an Omnibus account.
What is an Omnibus account?
This is an account that holds shares for more than one investor.
No, they will not be consolidated. The shares traded on ZiiDi Trader will remain on ZiiDi Trader and the shares traded under your CDSC account will remain in your CDSC account.
Getting Started
Open M-PESA app, select ZiiDi Trader under Financial Services, accept the terms, complete verification and confirm with PIN.
Buying Shares
On the ZiiDi trader mini-App, select Trade, → select the security of your interest → Tap Buy → Enter price & quantity of shares to buy → Review trade summary → Tap Buy Shares → Tap Proceed → Tap Buy Shares → Confirm with M-PESA PIN.
This is the transaction initiated to buy a share.
No. Trades depend on market matching, meeting willing buyer and seller at the indicated price.
Best Price is the most favorable price available in the stock market at the time you place an order
- When buying shares: it means the lowest price a seller is offering.
- When selling shares: it means the highest price a buyer is willing to pay.
Own Price is setting your own price at which you want to buy or sell shares, instead of accepting the current market (best) price.
- When buying: you choose the maximum price you are willing to pay.
- When selling: you choose the minimum price you are willing to accept.
Funds are reserved while the order is active.
Failed, Partial & Expired Orders
Orders are valid only until 3:00PM on that day.
Funds will be reversed back to your M-PESA account after market close.
This happens in three cases:
- If the buyer cancels an order.
- If the order is rejected by the market.
- If the buy order is not fulfilled by the end of trading (3:00pm).
Selling Shares
On the ZiiDi trader mini-App, under Trade, Select the security → Tap Sell → Enter price & quantity of shares to sell → Review summary → Tap Sell Shares → Tap Proceed → Tap Sell Shares → Confirm with M-PESA PIN.
No. Selling depends on order matching.
Funds are disbursed immediately after a matched sell order.
Successful Trades & Portfolio
You receive two notifications:
- One to acknowledge that we have received your trade request.
- One to acknowledge processing of the Order and it's outcome (whether fully or partially fulfilled/executed).
A portfolio is the total volume/value of shares a customer is holding.
Corporate Actions (Dividends Only)
This is a section with all the announcement or information provided by the listed companies and have an impact on the performance of their security.
Dividends are cash payments paid to shareholders based on the number of shares held as at book closure date. Dividends are paid via M-PESA Only.
Book closure date is the day the company checks who owns the shares. If you have shares on that day, you qualify to get benefits like dividends.
Market Hours & Support
The market is open Monday- Friday between 9:30am - 3:00pm. When markets are closed you can view portfolio and plan trades.

Risks & Boundaries
Yes. Share prices can go up or down based on the company performance, supply/demand or any company announcement.
